The Thermostat Compromise: Saving Money Without Freezing Your Family
Published in Life Hacks
Let’s be honest: nothing brings a peaceful household to a screeching halt quite like a quiet war over the thermostat settings.
One person is sweating in a sweater while the other is walking around in a parka indoors, and everyone is staring angrily at the monthly utility bill as it climbs higher and higher.
The knee-jerk reaction is to constantly fiddle with the dial, chasing a magic number that never quite satisfies everyone at the exact same time.
Enter the golden rule of climate compromise: dress for the season indoors.
Instead of paying a small fortune to keep your house at a tropical seventy-two degrees in the dead of winter or an arctic sixty-eight in July, nudge the thermostat by a sensible two degrees and layer up or down.
Throw a cozy quilt over the sofa, slip on a pair of thick wool socks, or switch to breathable cotton sheets, and watch your comfort levels—and your monthly savings—skyrocket.
