Inter Miami players Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Tomas Aviles, and Seattle Sounders staff member Steven Lenhart, received multiple game suspensions from the 2026 Leagues Cup as punishment for their behavior during a post-game brawl following Sunday’s Leagues Cup final.

The Leagues Cup Organizing Committee on Friday announced the Disciplinary Committee decisions.

Suarez was banned for the next six Leagues Cup matches, Lenhart for five, Aviles for three and Busquets for two.

Major League Soccer can, and is expected to, impose further disciplinary actions, which would likely be more immediate. There is an appeals process that could delay the MLS announcement.

Here are details of the Leagues Cup findings:

Following the conclusion of the match, Suarez was reported by the match officials for spitting at a Seattle Sounders coaching staff member. In accordance with Article 4.2.C of the Leagues Cup 2025 Competition Regulations, the Disciplinary Committee issued a six-match suspension to Suárez. He will be ineligible to participate in the next edition of Leagues Cup until the six-match suspension is fully served.

Avilés was reported by the match officials for violent conduct. In accordance with Article 4.2.C of the Leagues Cup 2025 Competition Regulations, the Disciplinary Committee issued a three-match suspension to Avilés.

Busquets was reported by the match officials for violent conduct. In accordance with Article 4.2.C of the Leagues Cup 2025 Competition Regulations, the Disciplinary Committee issued a two-match suspension to Busquets.

Lenhart was reported by the match officials for violent conduct. In accordance with Article 4.2.C of the Leagues Cup 2025 Competition Regulations, the Disciplinary Committee has issued a five-match suspension to Lenhart.

All four individuals sanctioned will also receive fines as a result of their conduct. The amounts of those fines were not disclosed. All suspensions must be served in the next edition or editions of Leagues Cup until fully completed.

Suarez issued an apology for his behavior on Thursday night.

“First of all, I want to congratulate the Seattle Sounders for their victory in the Leagues Cup; but, most of all, I want to apologize for my behavior at the end of the game,” Suarez wrote.

“It was a moment a great tension and frustration, right after the game ended, and things happened that should not have happened, but that does not justify my reaction. I made a mistake, and I sincerely regret it.

“That is not the image I want in front of my family, which suffers due to my errors, nor in front of my club, which also doesn’t deserve to see itself affected for something like this.

“I feel badly for what happened and I didn’t want let the opportunity go by without acknowledging it and asking forgiveness from everyone who felt bad for what I did.

“We know that that there is still a lot of our season ahead and we will work together to succeed and reach the goals that this club and all its fans deserve.

“A hug to all.”

Inter Miami also issued the following statement regarding the post-game melee: “Inter Miami condemns the altercations that took place following the conclusion of the Leagues Cup Final. These actions do not reflect the values of our sport, and we remain committed to upholding the highest standards of sportsmanship both on and off the pitch. We are working closely with Leagues Cup and MLS officials to ensure the situation is addressed appropriately. We thank our fans and community for their continued support.”
