Auto review: 2025 Genesis G80 delivers a couch-like ride
Published in Automotive News
As many car manufacturers have emphasized futuristic aesthetics in their new model releases, comfort has often taken a back seat. In 2025, Genesis took a different tack, making comfort its top priority. While exterior and interior aesthetics have been key qualities defining the brand, the new emphasis on comfort can be fully appreciated in Genesis' luxury cruiser, the couch-like riding G80, an upper-midsize luxury sedan fit for all consumers.
Powered by the 3.5-liter, 375 horsepower twin-turbocharged V-6 engine, the G80 boasts 391 pound-feet of torque, an eight-speed transmission and all-wheel drive. Competition for the G80 includes the Mercedes Benz E-Class, the BMW 5-Series and Audi, while Genesis has certainly done an outstanding job of exceeding expectations with the G80 and for a lot less money than the rest.
Twenty-inch sport wheels, 27-inch OLED instrument cluster and Navigation, Bang & Olufsen premium Audio system were all standard on our Vatna Gray G80 Sport Prestige 3.5T AWD tester. Did I mention the Sevilla Red interior? It was stunning, to say the least. Three-zone climate control, power rear shade, smart cruise control and highway driving assist were additional items we enjoyed in our week driving the G80.
For the 2025 Genesis G80, it is all about comfort and design. As of June, the Genesis had sold 1,781 units of the G80, compared to 1,990 in all of 2024. The growth in sales likely indicates that customers are finding the Genesis G80 a qualitative alternative to BMW and Mercedes models that don't break the bank. As Hyundai's upscale brand, Genesis has successfully confirmed that its cars not like others in the parking lot.
