More than 1.5 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products, including hot dogs and bacon, are being voluntarily recalled across the U.S. due to possible temperature abuse, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The items, produced between March 31 and Oct. 7, are from Chelsea, Massachusetts-based Kayem Foods Inc.

The manufacturer is recalling the products because of the “recent discovery of a cooling system malfunction at one of the company’s warehouses that resulted in storage temperature deviations.” The problem was discovered after a retail customer complained about warm product temperatures at the point of delivery on Oct. 1.

The products were shipped nationwide, including to Maryland, a Kayem Foods spokesperson confirmed to The Baltimore Sun.

“Our business depends on providing consumers with safe food of the highest quality,” Kayem Foods president and CEO Matt Monkiewicz said in a statement. “Out of an abundance of caution, we are undertaking this voluntary recall.”

According to a USDA list of recalled products, the items include hot dogs, beef brisket, corned beef, ham and other meat products.

There have been no confirmed reports of illness from consuming the recalled products, according to the USDA.

Last year, Kayem recalled more than 24,000 pounds of chicken sausage because the products may have been contaminated with pieces of plastic.
